The charity - which supports families, children and young adults deal with a range of issues from homelessness to abuse - is delighted to have found itself in such esteemed company through a mixture of good fortune and good will.
The Benjamin Foundation has been running for around 15 years and has had the same corporate logo for the last decade. Over the past year or so, the strategic direction and ambitions of the Foundation have grown, supported largely by their success at winning a number of key tenders in public sector services.
In parallel, some initial work had been done around The Benjamin Foundation brand which gathered pace following the involvement of a mutual contact between Richard Draper, the charity’s Chief Executive, and designer Thomas Manss.
The project was taken on by Thomas Manss & Company, an internationally respected design company with offices in London and Berlin, at a greatly reduced fee, the costs of which have been met by a specific grant from the Edith Murphy Foundation (meaning no charitable funds have gone towards the work).
Thomas Manss is rated as one of the top ten designers working in the UK (The Independent on Sunday) and the agency’s extensive client list includes a host of internationally renowned names such as Deloitte, architect Norman Foster, the British Museum and Thames & Hudson.
“We’re absolutely delighted to have a Thomas Manss design representing The Benjamin Foundation,” says Chief Executive Richard Draper. “It’s something most organisations can only dream of and we feel very privileged to be working with such a globally respected design team.”
The new logo, was publicly launched at a special event today, Tuesday (2nd March), and is based on ‘speech bubbles’, cleverly constructed to form the shape of a colourful butterfly.
Explaining the rationale behind it, Thomas says: “The butterfly mark is a rare achievement. It communicates the essence of The Benjamin Foundation: Support through relationships, conversation and empowerment. And at the same time, it still manages to be playful, effortless and easy to use.”
The Benjamin Foundation works with families, children and young adults across Norfolk, providing a range of services which include four supported accommodation centres for 16-25 yr olds, parent support advisers and community outreach initiatives.
“We believe the symbolism of the butterfly is very appropriate,” says Richard. “People are fragile, life is fragile, but through dialogue and support, we aim to help them transform whatever challenges they face into positive opportunities.
“While Norfolk has, in many ways, an image of a rural idyll, a lot of poverty and isolation lies beneath the surface. A key aim of The Benjamin Foundation is to provide accessible, non-judgmental support – be it through our supported and ‘move on’ accommodation, our resettlement scheme, through our work in schools or directly with families. Our new brand will help us build recognition and very accurately reflects our aims and ambitions for the future.”
