The Norfolk charity is promoting a whole month of sponsored and fund-raising activities and is asking people to get involved to ensure there’s at least one event happening every day throughout May.
“It could be anything from a silent auction to a cake sale,” says the charity’s fundraising officer, Laura Price. “They don’t have to be big events and children are especially encouraged to join in, whether through holding a toy sale or doing a sponsored silence.”
The Benjamin Foundation’s Chief Executive, Richard Draper, is leading the way with an ambitious plan to cycle from around 300 miles from Carlisle to Carrow Road.
A letter has been sent to schools across Norfolk, asking them to support the initiative by organising class or group activities. The Benjamin Foundation already provides its ‘Time for You’ service in many Norfolk schools, which offers advice, support, information and advocacy to children experiencing a range of difficulties.
As well as raising much-needed funds, the idea is designed to raise awareness of The Benjamin Foundation and the work it does across the county.
“It’s an ideal opportunity to raise awareness of the level of need that exists in Norfolk,” explains Laura. “We live in a beautiful, rural area but what looks idyllic on the surface often hides a great deal of poverty and brings additional problems such as access and isolation.”
If you’re interested, signing up to take part is easy. Just e-mail us with details of your activity and the date you’re doing it and we’ll enter it on our Mad in May calendar. Alternatively, you can call Laura for more information on 01692 500395 or e-mail laura.price@benjaminfoundation.co.uk.
