We love bananas!

NEWS RELEASE Members of Stalham & District Round Table certainly didn’t fall asleep on the job, fundraising for The Benjamin Foundation, as they walked the Coastal path between Hunstanton and Cromer dressed as Bananas in Pyjamas!
Nov 23 2011

Chairman Lee Lindsay-Clarke and Jon Press completed the 45 mile route without the usual ‘trekking’ kit of tents and cooking equipment, relying instead on the basics - ingenuity and a box of matches.

Thanks to generous sponsorship, they raised an amazing total of £1,750, which they presented to Chris Neil, manager of The Benjamin Foundation’s Aspire centre in Great Yarmouth. Aspire offers supported accommodation to up to 17 young people, many formerly homeless, and is one of The Benjamin’s Foundation’s four such facilities across the county.

Lee, along with 6 other members of the Stalham & District Round Table attended a visit to Aspire on Tuesday 22 November. One of the members, Ben Bullen says:  “It was fantastic to see first-hand, the absolutely amazing work The Benjamin Foundation is doing to help young people. I was genuinely shocked and appalled at what some youngsters have to go through. It not only made me realise how privileged I have been in life, but also made me very happy to see that there are people like the Benjamin Foundation trying to make a difference.”

Stalham & District Round Table are generously supporting The Benjamin Foundation with their fundraising efforts this year and they are hoping to raise more from other forthcoming activities, one of which is a “Quiz & Chips” evening to be held next year at The Highwayman, Hermanus, Winterton on Sea on Tuesday 13th March 2012. Ben adds: “It’s always difficult to get people interested in Round Table, mostly because of various old myths of ‘silly handshakes’ and ‘ceremonies’, all of which are completely untrue. New members are always welcome so if anyone would like to get involved, we’d be delighted to hear from them. It won’t take us long to show them that Round Table is actually just an excuse to have lots of fun, lots of laughs, and help raise a bit of money for charity along the way.”
