It’s designed to them the opportunity to try something different, meet new friends, broaden their horizons and raise their aspirations, targeting specific groups who currently have limited access to positive activities, whether because of social or financial barriers.
Young people are primarily be referred through the CAF system, including via Connexions, schools, Primary Care Trusts, self referrals, Children Services Social workers, Youth/ Development workers and Jobcentre Plus.
As well as offering our own structured programme of workshops and courses, we are working alongside community providers and organisations within the local areas to deliver a broad range of activities - from cooking and canoeing to CV writing and creative design.
BOOM acts as a central referral point to access all activities, to enhance existing provision and identify ‘cold spots’ within the county.
The BOOM programme already includes Healthy Living Workshops, residential outdoor activity camps, drop-in sessions for those with mental health needs and ‘first experience’ trips - but a key element is flexibility so we’ll be listening carefully to what young people want and responding accordingly as we build our portfolio.
